Above is the compound eye of a housefly at 20x magnification. 
What can be seen are the hairs coming out of the eye, and in one frame, the distinctive hexagonal pattern of the fly’s compound eye. This image was made from six images taken at different distances, using the darkfield microscopy technique.
Done for fun while completing a photography project at RIT.
